I’m Linda Gorman. Lingo originated as an e-mail handle a long time ago, and the nickname stuck.
What should you know about me? Well, I’ve been a publishing professional for over 30 years. I got my start editing college textbooks, and over the years I’ve worked in corporate communications, children’s educational publishing, and the psychological assessment field. Along the way, I’ve worn many hats: technical editor, developmental editor, production editor, copy editor, proofreader, and researcher. I have edited almost 100 nonfiction books for adults and children, as well as major research reports. I’m an editor because I believe in the power of words—to educate, inform, enlighten, and inspire.
Experience Matters
There’s no substitute for on-the-job experience. While I’m currently an independent contractor, for more than 15 years of my career I worked as an in-house editor for various companies. Those years taught me everything I know about my craft. As a staff editor, I developed effective project management and organizational skills, honed my interpersonal skills, and gained a big-picture understanding of the publishing process. It was an invaluable education that I could never have obtained from freelancing alone.

While I’m available to edit a wide range of material, most of my projects have fallen into the following categories:
